The paper deals with the assessment of the effectiveness of various soil erosion and flood mitigation measures in the village of Sobotište in the location of Kubíny. The work described in the paper focuses on the analysis of the drainage ditches that are used to protect the area of interest from excessive water erosion and muddy floods, by determining their volume and assessing their effectiveness. The characteristics of these ditches together with the properties of soils, climate and hydrological variables have the biggest impact on the frequency of occurrence of the muddy floods and the extent of soil erosion. Within the area of interest the relationship between the amount of lost soil due to water erosion and the way the agricultural land was used was built as well as the dynamics of the drainage ditches siltation. Within the work the surface runoff was calculated using the SCS-CN method and the soil losses by the universal soil loss equation of Wischmeier-Smith implemented in the GIS environment through the USLE2D model.
