EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF INFLUENCE OF FISSURES ON THE CHARRING OF TIMBER MEMBERS

In case of various dimensions of fissures, it is possible that as the cross-section reduces to the residual one, the mechanical resistance will be reduced as well. The charring rate of timber members with various fissures are analysed in this paper. The samples are exposed to heat flux in a cone calorimeter. The aim of the paper is to describe the experiment of timber samples with fissures and to analyse the results by means of a numerical analysis. Preliminary analysis shows that fissures can have a significant influence on the charring rate at a site of fissure and in case of several fissures they can have an influence on the whole cross-section.
