INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE OF NORTH DISTRICT IRONWORKS IN KLADNO

Poldi Ironworks in Kladno once belonged to one of the great metallurgical plants of Czechoslovakia, its uniqueness was due to its orientation in the production of stainless steel. It was founded in 1889 by Carl Wittgenstein to fill the market gap in tool steels for fine mechanics, scissors, files and other. The success was mainly the quality of products and rapid technical development. Thanks to a specialized focus it has become necessary and important. During the historical period, it developed, modernized and expanded its area. Today it is a brownfield area, subject to unplanned and planned demolitions for many years. Removed are not only industrial buildings from different stages of construction, but also technological facilities. This paper deals with a brief cross-section of the history of Poldi Ironworks in the field of construction and investment, pointing to valuable industrial heritage sites.
