Abstract

This paper deals with the study of rediscovered natural material – hemp concrete (hempcrete). The name of hempcrete is really confusing, because it represents a mixture of hemp shives, lime and water that does not contain cement or aggregates. Constructions built from hemp concrete are characterized by a very pleasant and healthy indoor climate, which has an impact on reducing the cost of maintaining the indoor thermal comfort. Hempcrete is also attractive for self-builders as it requires only minimal technological equipment. The growing of hemp is undemanding, because the plant grows quickly and is resistant to pests. However, the disadvantage of hempcrete is that harvest and processing of hemp requires a special mechanization or manual harvest.
