Czech and European legislation is focused on environmental protection, sustainable development and recyclability. However in the area of construction industry there are still the greatest extent represented binders based on Portland cement, although its production negatively affects the environment by the mining of natural resources and by creating CO2 emissions. A suitable solution of this problem seems to be the use of alternative binders. This paper briefly describes the most commonly used raw materials for the preparation of alkali-activated systems and properties of prepared composites, depending on the feedstock.
